As UGC proposes to merge NEET and JEE into CUET, will there be one exam for all?

First we will discuss about What is NEET JEE & CUET.

About NEET UG

For students interested in pursuing medical programmes like MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS etc), there is an All India Pre Medical Test called the NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (NEET UG).

Each year, the National Testing Agency conducts one single entrance exam in offline mode.

About JEE

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) was replaced by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main), an Indian-standardized computer-based test for admission to a variety of technical undergraduate programmes in engineering, architecture, and planning at colleges across India. Admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, etc. programmes at premier technical institutes like the National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Information Technology is based on the rank obtained in the JEE-Main, which is conducted by the JEE Apex Board and was previously conducted by NTA. It is usually conducted twice every year.

About CUET

The National Testing Agency conducts the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), formerly known as the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), as a pan-India test for admission to various undergraduate, integrated, postgraduate, diploma, certification, and research programmes at India’s 45 central universities. Numerous other state universities and deemed universities in India also accept it.

In 2010, admission to 41 undergraduate, graduate, and integrated courses for 1,500 seats at seven central universities was initially made possible via the CUCET. The CUCET-2010, which was conducted on June 19 and 20, 2010, at around 30 examination centres across the nation, was used to fill out the application. The Central University of Rajasthan ran the CUCET for 12 Central Universities from the time it began in 2010 until 2020. In 2021, the National Testing Agency took over the conduct of these tests. All 43 central universities will be required to adopt CUET when it is released in 2022 as a revised version of CUCET as part of National Education Policy 2020. It is a computer-based test as well.

Key Differences between these exam

  • NEET-UG is conducted every year once in offline mode.
  • CUET is conducted once in CBT Mode.
  • JEE is conducted every year twice in CBT mode.

Because they all cover the same material and have the same syllabus, the UGC intends to merge all of these exams into one exam called CUET.

As per proposal, students can take the exam once and be eligible for and explore other fields of study rather than taking the four courses — mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology — on three entrance exams, according to UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar, who spoke to TOI. The organisation that oversees higher education is forming a committee to consult with many stakeholders and come to a decision.

Nearly 43 lakh aspirants take the three main entrance exams in the nation, which are the engineering entrance “Joint Entrance Examination (Main),” the medical entrance “National Eligibility Entrance Test-Undergraduate,” and now “CUET-UG.” Most students, if not all of them, take at least two of these exams. For JEE (Mains), candidates take physics, chemistry, and mathematics, while biology takes the place of mathematics for NEET-UG. These topics are included in the 61 domain subjects for the CUET-UG.

Fair and transparent conduction of exams

As far as we are aware, no exam is administered fairly in India. Paper from NEETUG 2021 was leaked in a number of locations. Out of the 25 applicants who had contact with the gang, 16 students took the NEET exam in 2021. Along with the NEET 2021 results, the NTA did, however, also announce that 15 candidates’ results had been cancelled because it had been determined that they had cheated in the exam. The same thing took place during the NEETUG 2022 exam.

On behalf of kids, impersonators attempted to take the exam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted the group of exam cheaters as they attempted to sit the NEET 2022 medical entrance exam on behalf of students. Even though there are 11 people named in the FIR, only eight have been taken into custody as of yet. This is an injustice to hard-working students.

JEE 2021 is the same way. Hackers broke into JEE servers from far-off areas, taking tests for applicants at multiple JEE Main testing centres. Despite the security precautions taken, this occurred. The case was referred to the CBI and a coaching institute was named in the matter.

Many students wanted additional tries in JEE 2022 as well because there were power outages in some centres that prevented the computing equipment from operating properly.

It’s very unfortunate to hear this that in national level examination this happened not in once but every year.

Despite merging, UGC has to plan in conduction of these exam in fair means.
