Rishi Sunak became Britain’s PM, says “Was Appointed To Fix Mistakes”

King Charles III has nominated Rishi Sunak to be the Prime Minister of Britain, according to the palace. Yesterday, Mr. Sunak, 42, took over as Conservative Party leader after Penny Mordaunt received insufficient support and Boris Johnson abandoned his attempt to make a comeback.

Rishi Sunak, the country’s new prime minister, said he was appointed in part to fix the mistakes done by his predecessor Liz Truss and cautioned the country it faced challenging choices to overcome a “profound economic crisis.”

Social media is flooded with a number of posts regarding Rishi’s Indian connection. But the reality is that he is not Indian and does not even have ancestors in present-day India.

The 42-year-old former investment banker and politician is from from a Punjabi Khatri family; his paternal grandfather left Gujranwala before India attained independence and settled in Africa. Currently, Gujranwala is located in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Sunak’s father eventually relocated to the UK. Sunak became the prime minister after defeating previous prime minister Boris Johnson and House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt to win the Conservative Party leadership contest by default.

However, it is pertinent to mention that Rishi married Akshata Murthy in 2009. Akshata is the daughter of Indian billionaire Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys.

When Rishi Sunak was named finance minister of Britain and took an oath by placing his hands on the Bhagavad Gita, he did not hold back from embracing his heritage. Sunak says that despite being a British citizen at the moment, he practises Hinduism. He says that both religiously and culturally, he is of Indian ethnicity. He earlier proclaimed his Hindu identity with pride.
