Medical Shop licence suspended for selling “intoxicating, habit-forming drugs” illegally in Doda’s Kahara

A medical shop has been disallowed for operation in the Kahara area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district by the Drugs Control Officer for violation of the Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940, according to an order.

It is important to take action against illegal sales of intoxicating and habit-forming drugs, as they can have serious negative impacts on individuals and communities, a social activist named Burhan Dar told The Chenab Times. The use of such drugs can lead to addiction, health problems, and social issues such as crime and accidents. By shutting down the medical shop in Kahara, the drug control officer is taking a responsible and necessary step to protect the well-being of the community, he added.

However, simply closing the medical shop may not be enough to address the problem completely. It is important to also address the demand for these illegal drugs and the reasons why people may turn to them. This may involve education campaigns, access to treatment and support for those struggling with addiction, and efforts to address social and economic issues that may contribute to drug use.

It is also important to ensure that legal, prescription drugs are being used appropriately and are not being misused or sold illegally. This may involve stricter regulations and monitoring of prescription drug sales, as well as education for healthcare providers and the public on the proper use and disposal of such drugs.

Overall, shutting down the medical shop in Kahara is an important step in the fight against illegal drug sales and use, but it should be part of a broader effort to address the root causes of the problem and support those affected by addiction.

As per the order issued by the Drugs Control Officer, it appears that the retail drug sale licences issued to the firm M/S Javed Medical Hall of Kahara District Doda have been suspended due to alleged violations of the Indian Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940 and the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules 1945. The specific violations mentioned in the communication from the District Police Headquarters are the illegal sale of intoxicating or habit-forming drugs. Such actions are considered serious offences under the Act and are grounds for immediate action, including the suspension of the firm’s licenses. The order further reads that it is mandatory to disallow or stop the operation of his firm with immediate effect from December 19, 2022, until further orders, in the exercise of powers conferred under Section 22(d) of the Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940 or Rules therein and also in the greater interest of public health and patient care. It is important for all businesses, including those involved in the sale of drugs and other pharmaceutical products, to adhere to the relevant laws and regulations in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
