Common masses, poor wouldn’t be touched by ‘State Land’ eviction drive, says Manoj Sinha

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that common masses and poor people wouldn’t be touched during the ongoing drive launched by his administration to retrieve state land from encroachers.

Sinha, has reassured the public that the ongoing drive to retrieve state land from encroachers will not affect common and poor people. According to The Chenab Times, the drive to retrieve state land from illegal occupiers was initiated following directions from the High Court and has gained momentum across the region in recent days. However, there have been concerns raised by members of the public, who have requested that the government focus on the “big sharks” who have large tracts of state land under illegal possession, rather than targeting the poor.

Sinha acknowledged these concerns, stating that influential people have misused their positions to encroach on state land in violation of the laws. He emphasized that the government’s efforts will focus on retrieving state land from these individuals, rather than impacting the common and poor people. On January 9, the J&K government directed all deputy commissioners to ensure 100% removal of encroachments from state land by January 31, 2023. Videos shared on social media have shown people pleading with the deputy commissioners to spare the poor in the ongoing drive.

In response to a question about holding assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir, Sinha deferred to the statement made by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar, who said that polls in the region are due and will be held after taking into account weather conditions, security scenarios, and other factors.

In summary, as per reports by The Chenab Times, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has reassured the public that the ongoing drive to retrieve state land from encroachers will not affect common and poor people. The government’s efforts will focus on retrieving state land from individuals who have misused their positions to encroach on state land in violation of the laws, rather than impacting the common and poor people.
