Government working to level number of medical UG and PG seats in four years: Health Minister

The Union Health Minister of India, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced that the government is working towards equalizing the number of undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats within the next four years. This move will allow all MBBS graduates to pursue postgraduate courses in the medical field. During the 11th annual conference of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian origin, Mandaviya also invited healthcare professionals from the Indian diaspora to invest in research and open hospital chains in the country with the assurance of business.

The minister also spoke about the “Heal in India” initiative, which aims to offer affordable and quality healthcare, wellness and traditional medicine. Over 70 countries will sign hospital-to-hospital, country-to-country and country-to-hospital MoUs at the ‘Heal In India, Heal By India’ expo to be held later this year. The minister emphasized that the process has already begun, and Gujarat is the best destination for medical travel. He further assured those interested in working in the health sector that they will get guaranteed business if they affiliate their 50-100 bed hospital with Ayushman Bharat.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recognized the challenges faced by the healthcare sector due to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. He emphasized the need for innovative and cost-effective solutions that can be availed by all sections of society.

Dr Anupam Sibal, President of GAPIO, emphasized the importance of the platform for Indian-origin doctors to share their knowledge and exchange ideas. He stated that GAPIO provides such an opportunity for Indian-origin doctors practicing anywhere in the world.
