Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has taken a strong stand against the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir. Gandhi, who has been a vocal critic of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), attacked the party over the drive and accused it of snatching the land that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had nurtured for many decades.
In a tweet, Gandhi said that the Union Territory wanted employment, better business and love, but instead got the “BJP’s bulldozer.” The former Congress chief said that peace and Kashmiriyat would be protected by uniting, not dividing people.
The anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir is being conducted by the authorities to retrieve more than 10 lakh kanals (one kanal =605 sq yards) of land across the region. The drive, which began on January 7, has been directed by the Commissioner Secretary, Revenue department, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.
Gandhi’s attack on the BJP has been echoed by several other political parties such as the National Conference and the PDP, who have voiced their concerns against the drive and demanded an immediate end to it. A media report has claimed that the eviction drive has caused panic in the region.
The ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir has become a major political issue, with several political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, speaking out against the BJP and the drive itself. The future of the drive remains uncertain, as the authorities and political leaders continue to engage in a heated debate over the issue.
