The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notice to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, asking him to respond to the breach of privilege notices against him by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Pralhad Joshi. The secretariat has given Gandhi a deadline of February 15 to reply to the notices, which were filed following Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
In his speech, Gandhi commented on the Hindenburg-Adani issue, which sparked controversy and led to Dubey and Joshi moving the notices against him. The BJP leaders have accused Gandhi of making “baseless”, “contemptuous”, “unparliamentary” and “dishonorable” allegations in his speech.
The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, expunged several remarks made by Gandhi during his speech. The BJP members have claimed that Gandhi’s comments violated the provisions of the privilege notice and have sought action against him.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has now asked Gandhi to furnish his reply, which will be considered by the Lok Sabha Speaker for further action. The move has created a stir in the political circles and has led to widespread speculation about the fate of Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha.
The controversy has once again brought to the forefront the issue of privilege notices in the Indian Parliament and has raised questions about the importance of adhering to parliamentary decorum and procedures. The outcome of this case will have far-reaching implications for the Indian political landscape.
