Himachal CM Sukhu to hold meeting of truckers and management of Adani-owned cement plants to end deadlock

The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with senior executives of the Adani Group and truck unions on Tuesday, in a bid to resolve the ongoing deadlock between the two sides over freight rates. The Adani Group’s cement plants in Bilaspur and Solan districts, which were established to cater to the growing demand for cement in the region, were forced to shut down operations due to the dispute.

The closure of the two cement plants has had a significant impact on the livelihoods of thousands of families that were dependent on the operations of these plants. Approximately 6,500 trucks, attached to the two plants, have come to a standstill, causing widespread concern among the truck operators and their families.

In a statement released on Monday evening, the Chief Minister expressed his commitment to protecting the rights of the truck operators in the state and stated that the deadlock should be resolved in a way that neither party has to incur any loss. The Chief Minister’s intervention in the matter is being seen as a positive development, and it is hoped that a solution will be reached in the meeting.

The Adani Group, one of the largest business conglomerates in India, had closed down the plants on December 14, citing high transportation costs. The state government, on the other hand, has maintained that it is committed to ensuring that the truck operators are not subjected to any undue hardship.
