Congress leader and former party president, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar on Thursday for a five-day visit to the ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir. Accompanied by his nephew, the visit is a break from his party activities. During his visit, he will be joined by former J&K chief minister, Omar Abdullah.
Gandhi recently concluded his Bharat Jodo Yatra, covering approximately 4,000 km between various states from south India to north India. The foot march began in Kanyakumari in September and ended with the unfurling of the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
The visit of the Congress leader to Kashmir has created a stir in political circles with many speculating that he might meet political leaders and hold discussions on the current political situation in the region. This will be Gandhi’s second visit to Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
