Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to a heartfelt letter from a second-grade student in Bengaluru, thanking him for his condolences on the death of his mother. In the letter, Aarush Srivatsa expressed his sorrow at the passing of Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi, and offered his condolences. Modi replied by saying that the pain of losing a mother is beyond words and thanked the student for his kind gesture. He also said that such loving gestures give him the “strength and courage” to bear the loss.
Asking PM to accept his heartfelt condolences, Aarush Srivatsa, a student of MES Kishore Kendra School in Bengaluru wrote, “I felt very sad to see on TV that your beloved mother Smt Heera Ben aged 100 years passed away today. Please accept my heartfelt condolences,” he wrote. “I pray for her soul to rest at the notable feet of almighty god,” the student added.
Taking cognisance of the kid’s heartfelt gesture, PM wrote, “My gratitude for your heartfelt condolences on the passing away of my mother. Mother’s demise is an irreparable loss and its pain is beyond words. I thank you for including me in your thoughts and prayers.”
Thanking the boy further, Modi said that such loving gestures give him the ‘strength and courage’ to face the ‘irreparable loss’ of a mother. “Such gestures provide me with the strength and courage to bear this loss. I once again thank you for the heartfelt condolences,” Modi added.
The letter and reply were shared on Twitter by BJP leader Khushbu Sundar, who praised Modi for his statesmanship. Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 on December 30. She was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad after her health deteriorated.
Modi has often spoken about his close relationship with his mother, who he has described as his inspiration and guiding light. In a tweet after her death, he said that he had lost a “motherly figure” and that her blessings would always be with him.
