District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission Commences Operations in Bhaderwah, Ensuring Justice for Consumers

Bhaderwah – The recently established District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in Bhaderwah began operating today, with lawyers from the District Bar filing cases before the commission. The commission will have jurisdiction over Doda and Kishtwar districts and act as a forum to recognize the rights of consumers.

The implementation of the Consumer Protection Act will be ensured through this commission, providing for the establishment of authorities for timely and effective administration and settlement of consumer disputes. The commission shall have the same powers as those vested in Civil Court under the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) with respect to matters as per the Act, including the power to order removal of defects, replacement of the entire good, return the price to the complainant, award compensation, and grant punitive damages.

In relation to any goods sold or delivered or any service provided, a consumer or recognized consumer association or government authorities recognized under the law can file a complaint before the District Commission. The District Commission can also refer matters for mediation and settlement under the Consumer Protection Act.

The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in Bhaderwah will play a vital role in recognizing consumer rights and providing timely and effective administration and settlement of consumer disputes. As per The Chenab Times correspondent, the establishment of the commission has been welcomed by the members of the District Bar, including Adv Manjeet Razdan, Adv Jatinder Jamwal, Adv Shekar Mehta, Adv Vaibhav Sharma, Adv Mohd Majid Malik, and Adv Divya Kotwal.

The commission will serve as an essential platform for resolving consumer disputes, and the proceedings before the commission shall be deemed to be judicial proceedings. With the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act, the District Commission will provide justice to the consumers in Doda and Kishtwar districts, ensuring that their rights are recognized, and disputes are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
