Tight security arrangements are in place in Mansa as the first death anniversary of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala is being observed today. The event is being held at the New Grain Market in Mansa, where the late singer’s statue, his favourite 5911 tractor, and his last ride Thar will be placed.
Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29, 2022, while he was on his way to Jawahar Ke village. His death anniversary event may fuel emotions among his parents and fans, who are already simmering over alleged tardy probe into his murder.
The recent interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has escalated the matter, with the AAP government on tenterhooks over delay in the probe. Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh has said that he will speak at length on all issues related to Sidhu’s murder and its probe on his first barsi. He also claimed that gangster Bishnoi’s interview is a conspiracy to defame him and that some people don’t want a high turnout in Mansa, but their designs will not succeed.
The police and district administration are on high alert, with police personnel from other districts requisitioned to ensure elaborate security arrangements for the event. The Mansa administration has also announced a ban on flying drones near the venue. Deputy Commissioner Baldeep Kaur urged the people to peacefully participate in the event.
The investigation into Moosewala’s murder is still ongoing, and some arrests have been made. Recently, two of the accused were killed in a clash at Goindwal Sahib jail. The tight security arrangements in place are aimed at preventing any untoward incident during the event.
