Punjab Congress Chief Raises Alarm Over Gangster Threats in Lok Sabha

Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene in the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab during a Zero Hour mention in the Lok Sabha. He alleged an atmosphere of fear prevails as gangsters issue extortion threats from jails and abroad.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Warring stated that gangsters are ruling the roost and intimidating citizens at will. ANI reported that people, especially businessmen, receive ransom calls from prisoners and foreign locations, leading to murders of non-payers.

The MP claimed the state government has failed to ensure public safety. He highlighted a recent daylight shooting in Ludhiana during a wedding, where crossfire between rival gangs killed two guests. ProKerala noted Warring’s call for central action to restore confidence and curb organised crime.

Warring alleged criminal infiltration in politics, pointing to the Shiromani Akali Dal’s candidacy in the Tarn Taran by-election of a relative of a gangster. He criticised authorities for confining a notorious gangster in an out-of-state jail, restricting trials.

Asianet Newsable reported Warring’s emphasis on collapsed law and order. No response from the Centre or Punjab government was available as of Thursday. The issue follows recent gang wars and targeted killings in the state.
