Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Kelly emphasized the need for Democrats to present clear answers and pass legislation that benefits the American people. He suggested that voter frustration with the Republican Party and the current administration could drive significant turnout.
Kelly noted that many Americans are struggling, and he believes that the Republican party and the current administration lack adequate solutions to address these issues. He also pointed to the ongoing conflict with Iran as a factor that might influence voters’ decisions, suggesting that the consequences of the war and tariffs imposed under the Trump administration are negatively impacting the affordability of life for citizens. “War and tariffs caused by Donald Trump and enabled by the Republicans in the United States Congress are just killing the American people. I mean, they cannot afford their lives, and when you can’t, when you’re having a hard time feeding your kid, I mean, nothing else really matters,” Kelly stated.
Polls indicate that the November elections could be closely contested, with some suggesting that Democrats might gain control of Congress. Charlie Cook, founder of the Cook Political Report, predicted a Democratic victory in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, characterizing the potential shift not as a “blue wave” but rather a “red undertow.” Cook observed that the sentiment among voters appears to be largely against the current administration and its Republican supporters.
In related discussions, Senator Kelly has also addressed speculation about a potential presidential run in 2028. He has indicated that he has not yet made a decision regarding a presidential campaign and will consider it after the midterm elections.
