Renowned Poet Taskeen Badanvi Passes Away at 75

Doda, April 28: Prominent poet Taskeen Badanvi, also known by his real name Jalal Ud Din or Jalal Din Butt, breathed his last in the early hours of Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He hailed from Badanoo village in Thathri tehsil of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir.

Taskeen Badanvi was a multifaceted literary figure recognized for his significant contributions to poetry in Kashmiri, Bhadarwahi, and Urdu languages. A retired teacher, he had a long and respected career in education while pursuing his passion for literature. According to details available with The Chenab Times, he was affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and had received several accolades from various literary organizations for his poetic works.

His poetry often resonated with the cultural ethos of the Chenab Valley, touching upon themes of love, life, nature, and local sensibilities. Several of his Kashmiri ghazals and songs, including pieces like “Madenas Hali Dil” and “Roy Temsund Gulab,” have been popularized through local singers and continue to be appreciated by enthusiasts of regional literature.
