Two alleged hybrid militants of the Lashkar-i-Toiba outfit have been arrested in connection with an attack on a YouTuber journalist in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, according to police reports on Friday. The suspects have been identified as Suhaib Reyaz, son of Reyaz Ahmad Mir, and Anayat Ullah Iqbal, son of Mohmmad Iqbal Wani, both residents of Saidapora Payeen. The duo admitted to their involvement in the terror attack and were discovered to be working as hybrid militants of the proscribed militant outfit TRF.
A special investigation team, headed by DySP Hqrs Shopian, was set up to investigate the case FIR No. 116/2022 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 A Act, and 16 UAP Act of Police Station Heerpora. The team used oral, circumstantial, and technical evidence to round up several suspects, including Reyaz and Iqbal.
A joint party of police and 44RR recovered the weapon of offense, a pistol, along with its magazine and five pistol rounds, as well as an IED, in the orchards of village Saidapora Payeen Shopian, according to a police spokesperson.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, according to the statement. The arrests come as security forces in Kashmir have been stepping up their efforts to combat militancy and violence in the region. The TRF, which is believed to be a shadow group of the Lashkar-i-Toiba, has been involved in several militant attacks in the region in recent years.
