Advocate Hassan Babur Nehru, also known as Adv Babur, Babur-ul-Islam, and commonly as Babar Wakeel, is a well-known social and human rights activist from the Doda district of Chenab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. Early Life and Career

Adv Babur was born in 1986 in Nehru Chowk, Doda, and completed his schooling until class 9th in Doda and the remaining at JK Public School Kunjwani Jammu. He pursued a Law degree from The Law School, University of Jammu, in 2010. In Jan 2019, he finally resigned as an in-charge Law officer and began practicing as a private advocate.

Activism and Social Work

Adv Babur’s daily routine involves creating awareness among people about their fundamental human, social, political, and religious rights. He leads various processions, protests, and Dharnas to demand genuine public grievances related to socio-political issues. He has emerged as a popular leader of the masses, opposing any wrong policy.
Adv Babur has also actively participated in several human rights cases and has raised his voice against human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. Unfortunately, he has faced several arrests under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He was first arrested in 2016 and then again in 2017, which led to his detention in Kot Bhalwal Jail. In 2018, he was arrested again and detained for several months. Human rights organizations have widely criticized these arrests, claiming that he was targeted for his activism.
Despite facing challenges, Adv Babur continues to serve marginalised community. He remains a youth icon among Muslim youth and has earned a strong following across all communities for his social work via Ababeel.
Ababeel NGO

In 2014, Adv Babur established Ababeel, a registered charitable trust, known as Ababeel NGO, which primarily focuses on disaster management, relief, and rescue operations in the Chenab Valley region. The NGO has provided assistance during various natural disasters, including the devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014.
Personal Life
Adv Babur got married in 2013 and has three sons, Muhammad Sayyaf, Muhammad Ukasha, and Faiz ul Waheed. He recently started a Horse Riding Academy called Fursaan in March 2023, after exploring the hidden and far-flung destinations of Chenab Valley. The academy aims to promote healthy sports activities among students and provide them with a platform for recreation.
