Doda: Bhaderwah Jail authorities imparts computer training to inmates

Inmates of a jail in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah belt are getting a golden opportunity to learn computer skills. The jail authorities have initiated a program where the inmates can undergo computer training to make them self-reliant in the future. The program is aimed at imparting digital knowledge and basic education to prisoners, hoping to make them employment-worthy after they are released from the jail.

According to the officials, out of 85 inmates in the jail, 24 inmates are undergoing computer training, while the remaining 61 will get adult education. The program, in collaboration with Bhaderwah campus and Tata Consultancy Services, has already received a positive response from the batch and other inmates.

The initiative was inaugurated by Doda District Magistrate Vishesh Paul Mahajan, who believes that such programs will teach prisoners self-sustaining skills and valuable information, such as how to browse the internet or make digital payments. Thus, education becomes the weapon against the menace of illiteracy and crime.

Program Objective

The objective of the computer training program is to make the inmates proficient in computer skills so that they can become self-reliant and employment-worthy after their release from jail. The program aims to provide digital education and basic education to prisoners who have been deprived of such opportunities in their life.

Program Duration and Curriculum

The computer training program will last for six months. The program is designed to cover the basics of computer skills and to provide advanced training to those who already have some knowledge. The curriculum will cover various topics such as computer fundamentals, computer hardware and software, operating systems, internet browsing, email, and social media. In addition to this, the program will also focus on providing practical training to the inmates.

Program Faculty

To provide quality education to the inmates, the program has collaborated with Jammu University’s Bhaderwah Campus. The faculty members from the Computer Science Department of Bhaderwah Campus will be teaching the computer skills to the inmates. The faculty members have been trained to provide education to the inmates in an effective and efficient manner. The program has also enrolled 61 inmates under the adult education program of Tata Consultancy Services.

Benefits of the Program

The program is aimed at providing an opportunity to the inmates to learn new skills that can help them in their future life. The computer training program will help the inmates to become self-reliant and employment-worthy after their release from jail. The program will also help in reducing the rate of recidivism as the inmates will be equipped with new skills that can help them in leading a better life.
