In a devastating incident, ten people lost their lives and 57 others sustained injuries when a bus skidded off a bridge and plunged into a gorge near the Jajjar Kotli area in Jammu district. The ill-fated bus was en route to Katra when the accident occurred, according to officials on Tuesday.
The mishap prompted swift action from local residents and the police, who immediately rushed to the scene to commence rescue operations. Shortly after, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team also joined the efforts to assist in the rescue mission. The injured passengers were swiftly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for urgent medical attention.
Chandan Kohli, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Jammu, confirmed that the rescue operation was almost complete. He stated that a case has been registered, and investigations have been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
Expressing his deep sorrow and condolences, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. He also extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured victims. The LG, visibly moved by the loss of lives, remarked, “I am extremely pained by the loss of lives in this tragic bus accident in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu. I have directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance and treatment to the injured individuals.”
The incident has left the entire region in shock and mourning as families and friends grapple with the untimely loss of their loved ones. Authorities have assured the affected families and the public that every effort will be made to investigate the accident thoroughly and take necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
