In a new development, the Kishtwar police have taken significant preventive action by apprehending a dedicated terrorist associate. The individual in question, identified as Abdul Karim Butt, is the sibling of a prominent Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) A++ category terrorist, Jahangir Saroori. This strategic detention has been executed under the legal provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA), underscoring the commitment to maintaining law and order.
Hailing from the Badhat Saroor Drabshalla locality in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Karim Butt has been taken into custody to forestall any potential threats to the region’s security. “Abdul Karim Butt, son of Mohd Anwar Butt, resident of Badhat Saroor Drabshalla of J&K’s Kishtwar district, happens to be the brother of hardcore HM A++ category terrorist Jahangir Saroori. He was detained under PSA,” stated Kishtwar’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Khalil Poswal. As part of this tactical move, Anwar has been confined to the Kishtwar district jail.
The detainee, Abdul Karim Butt, has a history intertwined with anti-national activities, prompting his previous entanglement with legal proceedings under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), according to police. Currently, he is also undergoing trial in a court presided over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The decision to take him into custody has been shaped by the realization that his present actions pose a tangible threat to the nation’s security fabric. Additionally, it has been observed that his unrestricted presence within society has contributed to the potential radicalization of impressionable youth.
The Kishtwar SSP, Khalil Poswal, emphasized the necessity of this apprehension in preserving the security and well-being of the region. “His current activities are prejudicial to the security of the country. His free movements in society also created circumstances to radicalise youth,” noted the SSP.
