Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains ‘Bitten by Venomous Snake’ During Flood Rescue Operation

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains was bitten by a venomous snake during a flood rescue operation in his constituency of Sri Anandpur Sahib on the night of August 15. The minister shared an update on his health through his social media account on Saturday, detailing the incident and his subsequent medical examination.

In a tweet, Bains expressed gratitude for the improved flood situation in his constituency, while acknowledging the challenges he faced during the rescue operations. Despite being bitten by a venomous snake, he demonstrated unwavering determination to assist the affected population. Bains stated, “With God’s grace and people’s love & blessings, I’m alright now. The effect of the venom is receding and my blood tests have come out normal as well.”

Sources close to the minister revealed that he became aware of the snake bite a day after the incident, when he started experiencing discomfort. Subsequently, he was transported to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh for treatment.

On the night of August 15, Bains was actively involved in overseeing the flood rescue efforts in his constituency. Despite feeling unwell the following day due to body aches, he continued his work, attributing his discomfort to restlessness. After taking medication, he returned to the affected villages and remained there until late evening.

However, as Bains’ condition deteriorated upon his arrival in Chandigarh, medical professionals at PGI discovered the snake bite on one of his feet. The timely medical intervention has been attributed to the receding effects of the venom and the normalization of his blood test results.

X users, formerly known as Twitter, praised Minister Bains for his dedication during these trying circumstances and extended their well-wishes for his swift recovery.
