In a significant step towards enhancing the safety and support for women affected by violence, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sh. Abdul Qayoom-JKPS, inaugurated a special cell today in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. This initiative, which was officially launched at the Women Police Station Doda, is aimed at providing a secure platform for women to report grievances and seek assistance, while also fostering a more gender-sensitive approach within the law enforcement agency.
SSP Doda emphasized the crucial role of the Women Cell, highlighting its mission to offer immediate assistance to women facing family violence or other forms of atrocities. The cell will provide support by facilitating complaint registration, offering counseling services, and making necessary referrals to agencies specializing in medical, psychiatric, educational, and legal aid. Beyond these essential services, the initiative is designed to help women rebuild their self-respect and dignity.
The Nodal Officer for the cell is Dy.SP Hqrs Doda, who will oversee its day-to-day operations. Additionally, two professional social workers, Afia Nazir and Monika Parihar, deputed by the National Commission for Women, have joined the team. Their primary responsibilities include providing legal aid, counseling, and other forms of assistance to women affected by violence.
For those seeking assistance from the special cell, a dedicated contact number has been established: 8899258735. A team of trained officers and officials is readily available to address inquiries and concerns, ensuring that essential support is provided to women whenever needed.
