Candlelight Vigils Held Across Kashmir, Chenab Valleys to Mourn Slain Security Forces Officials

Candlelight marches were organized in various regions of the Kashmir and Chenab Valleys on Thursday to denounce the tragic killing of three security forces officials in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

The candlelight vigils, organized across District Kupwara, encompassed locations in Kupwara, Handwara, Lolab, and Karnah subdivisions. Protesters gathered at various spots, marching through the main towns and villages, drawing a diverse gathering of people deeply affected by the recent loss.

In the Karnah sub-division, the candlelight marches concluded at the Line of Control (LOC) in Teetwal. Community leaders, veterans, and representatives from civil society addressed the assembly, delivering speeches that paid homage to the fallen soldiers and police officers.

In Kulgam, civil society members came together in a candlelight march to honor the memory of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of 19 RR, Major Aashish Dhonchak, and DySP J&K Police Humayun Bhat. These brave individuals lost their lives during an encounter in the Gadole area of Kokernag, Anantnag district. People gathered at the main market and the clock tower in Kulgam to light candles, expressing their condolences and solidarity with the grieving families.

In Bandipora, a united front of civil society members, PRIs (Panchayati Raj Institutions), employees from various public offices, traders’ associations, and the general public held a candlelight march to mourn the loss of Army Officers and a Police Officer. The gathering at Harmukh Chowk Bandipora stood as a symbol of solidarity with the families of the fallen soldiers and as a strong condemnation of militancy and a call for an end to violence.

District Administration Kishtwar

In a solemn ceremony at the VC Hall of the DC Office in Kishtwar, senior Officers of the District Administration came together for a two-minute silence, paying heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in recent encounters with militants in Kokernag and Rajouri.

Candlelight marches also found resonance in parts of Doda district, including Thathri, where BJP activists alongwith locals gathered to share their collective grief and seek solace in unity.

Late Thursday evening, a diverse multitude of individuals, spanning various backgrounds and professions, assembled at the Ramban district headquarters for a candlelight march. With unwavering resolve, they carried portraits of three distinguished officers, among them, two from the Army and one from the Police force.
