As the sun rose on the sixth day of the ongoing encounter in Kokernag, Anantnag district of South Kashmir, the relentless pursuit of security forces yielded both destruction and discovery. In the rugged terrain of the Gadul forests, the operation has witnessed the obliteration of five militant hideouts and the grim recovery of a charred body. Speculation abounds that this body may be that of the wanted militant Uzair Khan, prompting authorities to initiate DNA analysis to confirm his identity, according to a report by Amar Ujala.
The operation, marked by its complexity and the unwavering determination of the security forces, was set into motion following a tragic event on 13 September when three security officers fell victim to an attack in Kokernag. The militant organization, The Resistance Front (TRF), purportedly a branch of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. It is now believed that Uzair Khan, a locally known militant hailing from Naugam village in Kokernag, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this heinous act.
Uzair Khan, who carries a substantial bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head, is now firmly in the spotlight of this unfolding narrative. His association with Lashkar-e-Taiba since June 2022 has raised significant concerns among security forces and local authorities.
