In a significant development, the family members of Mohammad Uzair Khan have identified his lifeless body, as per official. Uzair, identified by the police as a commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), met his demise in a fierce encounter with a joint team of Police and Army personnel in the rugged terrain of Gadole in Kokernag, situated in the Anantnag district of Kashmir.
The revelation of Uzair’s identity was confirmed by ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, who was quoted by news agency GNS as saying, “The family members have identified the body of LeT commander Uzair.”
This revelation comes in the wake of an extended week-long operation that ensued after the unfortunate killing of Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish Dhonchak, Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, and another soldier, whose identity remains undisclosed.
Initial reports from the top police officer of the Kashmir region had indicated that Uzair and an unidentified militant, whose body is yet to be recovered, were neutralized during the course of this operation.
