In a swift response to a recent tragedy, the Wildlife Department took decisive action to eliminate a ‘man-eater’ leopard that had been causing fear and endangering lives in the village of Nichama, located in the northern region of Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Local sources reported that the leopard, believed to be responsible for the tragic death of a three-year-old boy just days earlier, met its end at the hands of Wildlife Department shooters on the evening of September 19.
According to witnesses, the leopard had been on the prowl, posing an imminent threat to the local residents and their livestock. As soon as the menacing beast emerged, vigilant locals quickly gathered to chase it away. In the meantime, a team from the Wildlife Department, armed with the necessary weapons, took swift action, resulting in the instant death of the leopard.
A Wildlife Department official, when contacted, confirmed the successful operation. “We had been closely monitoring the movements of this leopard following the tragic incident involving the minor boy,” the official stated.
