In a significant development in the ongoing battle against narcotics, Kishtwar Police successfully arrested a drug peddler in the Bus Stand area of Kishtwar town, confiscating a cannabis-like substance from his possession. The operation, dubbed “Sanjeevani,” was conducted under the guidance of SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal-JKPS.
As per statement issued by the police, a specialized team, led by SHO PS Kishtwar, Insp. Parvaiz Ahmed Khanday, and assisted by PSI Vivek Daliya, established a checkpoint at the Bus Stand area as part of their concerted efforts to curb the drug menace plaguing the region.
During a meticulous inspection of both vehicles and pedestrians passing through the area, the police observed suspicious behavior exhibited by an individual attempting to evade the checkpoint. Acting swiftly, law enforcement personnel apprehended the individual. Subsequent examination led to the discovery of a cannabis-like substance in his possession, prompting his immediate custody, the statement reads.
The arrested individual has been identified as Haqnawaz Giri, son of Ghulam Hussan Giri, residing in Pochhal, Kishtwar. In connection with this incident, a case bearing FIR No. 221/2023 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been officially registered at P/S Kishtwar. An ongoing investigation seeks to uncover further details related to the case.
SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal-JKPS, has consistently urged the general public to actively participate in the fight against drug consumption and trafficking within their neighborhoods.
