The two-day National Conference on the “Role of Social Sciences in Managing Perception and Nurturing Peace in Jammu and Kashmir” commenced at Bhaderwah Campus on October 28, 2023. This event is a collaborative effort between Bhaderwah Campus and Rashtriya Samaj Vigyan Parishad (RSVP), dedicated to the promotion of social sciences.
The conference opened with great enthusiasm and significance, with Dhananter Singh Kotwal, Chairman of the District Development Council Doda, as the Chief Guest who inaugurated the event. Eminent dignitaries, including Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector of Bhaderwah Campus, Prof. Sheila Rai, Secretary of RSVP, Co 4 RR, Dr. Nagendra Rao, and Dr. Kuljit Singh, were also present.
Dhananter Singh Kotwal expressed his appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of academic discussions in fostering peace in the region. Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector of Bhaderwah Campus, delivered a formal welcome, highlighting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and addressing regional challenges. He also underscored the role of the armed forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Prof. Gupta stated, “The conference provides a platform for diverse perspectives, enabling scholars and practitioners to engage in enriching dialogues on the critical role of social sciences in managing perception and nurturing peace.” He further added that the conference focuses on the unique challenges and opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to provide deeper insights into the socio-cultural and political dynamics of the region.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah, Dil Mir Choudhary, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of such conferences in advancing the cause of peace and harmony in the region. He mentioned that the conference will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive sessions with participation from prominent scholars and experts in various social science fields.
Prof. Sheila Rai, Secretary of RSVP, spoke about RSVP’s role in promoting peace and shared her views on the perception of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the conference’s importance in this context.
Dr. Kuljit Singh, the Convenor of the conference, provided an overview of the conference’s objectives and the significance of addressing issues related to perception management and peace in the region. He stated, “The National Conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and experts from diverse backgrounds within the social sciences to explore the pivotal role these disciplines play in promoting peace, understanding, and harmony in the region of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Participants in the conference will share research findings and engage in stimulating discussions on the practical applications of social sciences in conflict management and perception enhancement.
The conference will continue with keynote speeches, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive sessions, featuring participation from prominent scholars and experts in various social science fields.
In attendance were Dr. Jatinder Manhas, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Dr. Subash Chander, Dr. Cherring Tandup, Dr. Umesh Choudhary, Dr. Sunil Bhardwaj, Miss Bablu Sharma, Dr. Rohit Bhagat, Dr. Shayan Javed, Dr. Abid Sarver, Mr. Mohd Avias, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, and Dr. Ajay Lakhotra, representing both teaching and non-teaching staff.
