Jammu and Kashmir’s Mumin Dar, a 21-year-old powerlifter from Kishtwar, has been making headlines with his remarkable achievements in the powerlifting arena. Despite starting his training journey in 2019, Dar has swiftly risen through the ranks, securing multiple medals and titles at both state and district levels.
Dar’s powerlifting journey commenced in 2019 when he entered a gym with the intention of experimenting with the sport. Within just two years, he transformed his physique and entered the competitive arena. His initial success came in March 2021, winning a gold medal at the Bahu Fort Jammu Bench Press Championship.
Throughout 2021 and 2022, Dar continued to dominate at the district and state levels, earning titles such as “Powerman of Kishtwar” multiple times. Notable achievements include a silver medal at the J&K UT Bench Press Championship in October 2021 and two gold medals with the title of “Best Lifter of J&K” in September 2022.

In August 2022, Dar achieved a significant milestone by clinching a bronze medal at the National Classic Men & Women Powerlifting Championship in Kasaragod, Kerala. Competing against some of the nation’s top powerlifters, this accomplishment marked him as a formidable force in the sport.
Undeterred by challenges, Dar’s ultimate goal is to represent India in the Olympics, aspiring to be a role model for aspiring athletes from his hometown and the broader Kashmir region. Speaking to The Chenab Times, Dar expressed gratitude for the support from his hometown and emphasized his dream of excelling on the Olympic stage.
In his latest feats, Dar secured a gold medal in the J&K UT Powerlifting & Deadlift Championship 2023 held in Jammu from November 4 to 6. Notably, he also received the “Best Lifter of J&K” trophy. Prior to this, Dar clinched gold in the J&K UT Bench Press Championship 2023-24, earning a spot in the nationals.

Currently gearing up for the XXVIII Men & Women National Benchpress Championships 2023 in Bengaluru from November 22 to 26, Dar remains confident in his abilities. His participation in the National Sun Junior, Junior, Senior & Masters Equipped & Classic Bench Press Championship 2022-23 in January showcased his commitment to the sport, competing in the challenging Classic Bench Press category.
As Dar prepares to face formidable opponents in the upcoming national event, his story serves as an inspiration, proving that with determination and hard work, one can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. Mumin Dar is undoubtedly a rising star in the world of powerlifting, and the powerlifting community eagerly anticipates his future accomplishments.
