In a devastating incident, a bus carrying passengers met with a fatal accident in the Assar Bagger area of Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. The unfortunate incident occurred when the bus, bearing the registration number JK02CN-6555, skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge. Official sources have confirmed that 39 individuals lost their lives, while 16 others sustained injuries, including six critically. The bus was on the way from Kishtwar to Jammu.
According to The Tribune, Doda Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom reported that the accident claimed the lives of 39 individuals, with an additional 17 sustaining injuries. The toll rose to 39 on Wednesday evening, as three of the four injured individuals transferred to GMC, Jammu, succumbed to their injuries, as stated by the SSP.
Immediately following the accident, a coordinated effort between local residents and authorities commenced extensive rescue operations to aid the victims. The injured have been promptly shifted to GMC Doda for medical attention.
Expressing his grief, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, stated, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Assar, Doda. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families & wishing for a speedy recovery of those injured in the accident. Directed Div Com & Dist Admin to provide all necessary assistance to affected persons.”
