Doda Police Intensifies Traffic Crackdown Post Tragic Bus Accident: Registers 5 FIRs, Seizes 13 Vehicles, and Issues 132 Challans

In response to the tragic bus accident on November 15, claiming 39 lives and injuring 17, Doda Police has ramped up efforts to curb traffic violations. The recent initiative has led to the registration of five First Information Reports (FIRs), the seizure of 13 vehicles, and the issuance of 132 challans across the district.

As per statement issued to The Chenab Times, Doda Police officials revealed that three FIRs were logged at Police Station Doda. FIR No. 247/2023 targeted Umar Muneeb, a bus driver from Changa Gandoh, for overloading passengers. Similarly, FIR No. 248/2023 was filed against Kailash Chander, a mini-bus driver from Dessa, for a similar offense, and FIR No. 249/2023 focused on Tempo Driver Manjeet Kumar of Kulhand Doda for overloading passengers. All three drivers were promptly arrested, and their vehicles were seized.

In light of the tragic incident, additional measures were taken in Police Station Thathri, resulting in FIR No. 100/2023 against Matador driver Zahoor Ahmed from Gharsoo Doda for overloading passengers. Moreover, FIR No. 97/2023 was registered in Police Station Gandoh against TATA SUMO driver Mohd Yaqoob of Kilhotran Gandoh for exceeding the vehicle’s seating capacity. Both drivers faced arrests, and their vehicles were impounded.

The recent crackdown saw the seizure of 13 vehicles, and 132 drivers were issued challans for violating traffic laws. Doda Police issued a stern warning, emphasizing the imperative need to adhere to traffic regulations, especially in the aftermath of the tragic bus accident that occurred in Trungal Assar on November 15. The heightened enforcement is aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing similar incidents in the future.
