In a recent development, security forces operating in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar have claimed to have successfully foiled a potential terror attack by detecting and defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Dul Hasti Power House. The incident occurred in close proximity to National Highway 244 (Batote-Kishtwar National Highway).
Sources told The Chenab Times that acting on specific intelligence inputs, Kishtwar police, in collaboration with 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), launched a search operation in the Hasti area, approximately 12 kilometers away from Kishtwar town. The operation resulted in the discovery of a tiffin IED planted about 700 meters from the power house of the 390 MW Dool-Hasti power project.
During the search, sniffer dogs were deployed, leading to the identification of the IED. Subsequently, the area was cordoned off, and a bomb disposal squad was called in to neutralize the threat. The components of the defused IED included a tiffin box-type canister, a significant quantity of explosives, a battery, fuse conductors, a bucket, and a 20-25 meter wire.
Senior police officials have confirmed the claim of foiling the terror attack as per reports, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. They clarified that the power project itself was not a specific target, as it is fully guarded by elite forces. However, security establishment sources noted that the potential targeting of security forces’ vehicles on Kishtwar-Jammu NH 244 cannot be ruled out.
The Hizb militant outfit, known to be active in the Kishtwar District, is under suspicion in connection with the incident, as reports claims.
