In the aftermath of the tragic accident involving an Assar-bound bus on November 15, 2023, the Doda Police have taken swift action by booking the owner of the ill-fated vehicle. The bus, en route from Kishtwar to Jammu, met with a fatal accident at Trungal Assar, resulting in the loss of 39 lives and injuries to 17 passengers.
According to a statement issued by Jammu and Kashmir Police to The Chenab Times, the owner of the bus involved in the Assar accident has been booked for alleged negligence in adhering to procedures and traffic regulations. A First Information Report (FIR) No. 21/2023 has been registered at the Police Station Assar, citing violations under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
To ensure a thorough and expeditious investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted, with Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) DAR Doda leading the team. The SIT operates under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) Hqrs. Doda, with a mandate to scrutinize all aspects of the case on a day-to-day basis.
The focus of the investigation is on determining the precise cause of the accident and ascertaining whether proper procedures and traffic regulations were adhered to by the bus owner. Dheeraj Gupta, son of Kundan Lal Gupta and a resident of Narwal Pain Satwari, Jammu, has been formally booked for allegedly failing to comply with the required protocols.
The Doda Police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing, with every detail meticulously examined by the SIT. The tragic incident has prompted authorities to pursue a comprehensive inquiry to shed light on the circumstances leading to the accident.
