Drabshalla, May 2: A young man, Nasir Hussain (26), son of Gh Nabi Wani, resident of Tatani Saroor and presently residing in Drabshalla, succumbed to critical injuries on Wednesday evening after falling into an under-construction drain.
Hussain was crossing the road near the High School in Drabshalla when he lost his footing due to the muddy conditions on National Highway 244 and fell into the drain. The drain, which has been under construction for over a year, reportedly had iron rods protruding upwards, one of which pierced Hussain’s chest.

Saqib Zargar, The Chenab Times correspondent from Drabshalla, blamed the negligence of the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for the accident. “The substandard work and carelessness of NHIDCL have been at their peak for far too long,” Zargar said. “The highway in Drabshalla has been in a deplorable state for the past 2-3 years, making it treacherous for pedestrians.”
Hussain was first rushed to the Trauma Centre in Thathri, a facility expected to function as a Sub District Level Hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda, a common course of action for critical accident cases in the area.
Sources informed The Chenab Times that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and an investigation is underway.
Zargar also informed that Hussain’s Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) will be held today in Drabshalla after 11 pm.
