Government Degree College (GDC) Kilhotran, Bhalessa, recently underwent its first accreditation cycle by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). A three-member Peer Team visited the college on May 14th and 15th to assess its academic and administrative practices.
The team comprised of Dr. Nirmala Babu Rao, Chairperson and Professor of Botany at Osmania University Hyderabad; Dr. Guruvappa Nagaraja, NAAC Member Coordinator and Professor of Economics at Andhra University, Andhra Pradesh; and Dr. Sandhya Nair (NAAC Member), former Principal of R.S. Mundle Dharmpeth Arts and Commerce College, Kerala.
Warm Welcome and Presentations
The Peer Team was received with a guard of honor by NSS volunteers. On the first day, Principal Dr. Javid Iqbal Zargar delivered a presentation highlighting the college’s current state, recent infrastructural developments, and steps taken to implement the National Education Policy 2020. Dr. Mohd Aslam Rather, the IQAC Coordinator, followed with a presentation on the role of the College IQAC in ensuring quality initiatives and promoting excellence in academic and administrative practices.
Interaction and Assessment
The team interacted with Heads of Departments from all teaching departments, college stakeholders (parents, students, and alumni), and the Director of the College Development Council at the University of Jammu. They assessed the college’s infrastructure, visited departments and labs, and interacted with teaching and non-teaching staff. The team also inspected the newly constructed Principal’s Quarter and ongoing college projects.
The first day concluded with a cultural event where the college anthem was unveiled by the Peer Team.
Second Day and Exit Meeting
The second day involved visits to the college library, browsing center, accounts/establishment section, NSS unit, and sports facilities. This was followed by an interaction with IQAC members and conveners of various college committees. Finally, the Peer Team uploaded their assessment report to the NAAC portal.
In the concluding exit meeting, Dr. Javid Iqbal emphasized the college’s commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and holistic student development through the NAAC accreditation process. Dr. Nirmala Babu Rao commended the college for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and evaluated them based on the seven NAAC criteria: curricular aspects, teaching-learning evaluation, infrastructure and research, extension activities, student support and progression, governance and leadership, and best practices. The Peer Team offered valuable suggestions for further improvement and presented their report to the College Principal.
