Three militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter in the Sinoo area of Gandoh, Doda District, and their bodies have been retrieved, a police official confirmed. The operation, which began earlier today, saw heavy firing, but The Chenab Times correspondent Raja Shakeel reports that the firing has now ceased. Security forces remain on the spot.
Earlier today, The Chenab Times reported that two militants had been killed based on prominent sources and news reports. It was noted that official confirmation was pending at the time. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain (@anandjainips), had confirmed one militant’s death through a tweet. This latest update from the police official now confirms a total of three casualties among the militants.
During the encounter, an SOG jawan, SGCT Ashiq Hussain (son of Mohd Sharief), aged 35, from Chinyas, Gandoh, sustained an injury to his right leg. He is reported to be in stable condition.
The encounter in Sinoo Gandoh is part of a broader pattern of violence in the region. On June 12, an encounter in Kota Top, Gandoh, led to the injury of Constable Fareed Ahmed (973/D) of the Special Operations Group (SOG) Gandoh. That day also witnessed the death of a CRPF jawan and injuries to six security personnel in encounters in the Kathua and Doda districts. The violence further escalated with an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi, resulting in nine deaths and 42 injuries, days before these encounters.
The Doda district has been a focal point for militant activities, prompting continuous operations by government forces from past two weeks.
