Long-Pending Demand of Doda’s Thathri Subdivision Fulfilled: DySP Post Established

In a significant move addressing the long-standing demands of the residents of Thathri subdivision in Doda district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters has announced the establishment of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) position in Thathri. This decision, effective immediately, is seen as a precursor to the eventual establishment of a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) post, a major administrative upgrade eagerly awaited by the local populace.

According to Order No: 1978 of 2024, dated July 27, 2024—a copy of which lies with The Chenab Times—Shri Shahid Nahiem Ahmed, DYSP IR-22 Battalion (KPS125686), has been transferred and posted as DYSP PC Thathri. This order is issued in continuation of PHQ Order No. 1975 of 2024, dated the same day. One DySP position from the overall reserve has been attached to District Doda to facilitate the drawal of pay for the officer by SSP Doda.

Local activists from Thathri have expressed relief and satisfaction with this development. For years, residents of Thathri suffered due to the distance of the SDPO office previously located in Bhaderwah, approximately 60 kilometers away from Thathri town. This considerable distance posed significant challenges for timely administrative and police responses, exacerbating the region’s security and law enforcement issues.

The newly established DySP post will not only oversee the Thathri Police Station but will also supervise Crime Police Posts at Karara, Premnagar, Mahalla, and Sewa Chiralla. The territorial and subject matter jurisdiction will include anti-terrorist operations, crime prevention and detection, and the maintenance of law and order. This supervision extends to the SOG/PC components at Thathri and Bhella, as well as seven special police pickets and eight minority police pickets under the Thathri Police Station’s jurisdiction.

In a formal statement, R.R. Swain, IPS, Director General of Police, J&K, highlighted that this restructuring is designed to meet emergent operational requirements. The creation of the DySP Thathri post is an essential step in enhancing the security and administrative oversight in the region, laying the groundwork for the anticipated SDPO post.

The public of Thathri has welcomed this development, viewing it as a crucial step towards better policing and administrative efficiency. As per The Chenab Times, residents have long advocated for an SDPO post to address the unique challenges faced by Thathri subdivision, and the establishment of the DySP post is perceived as a positive move in that direction.

This decision also involves amendments to the territorial and subject matter jurisdiction of SDPO Bhaderwah to accommodate the new arrangements. The integration of these changes aims to enhance the efficacy of police operations and improve public safety in the region.

As the newly appointed DySP, Shri Shahid Nahiem Ahmed is expected to take charge immediately and commence his duties, furthering the objectives set forth by the police headquarters. The residents of Thathri subdivision look forward to the positive impacts this administrative enhancement will bring to their community.
