In a tragic accident near the Garsoo area of Doda district, an Alto car bearing registration number JK17A 4753 plunged into the Chenab River, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuring another. The victims were traveling from Srinagar to Kishtwar when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Rescue teams retrieved the bodies of Imran Hussain (46), son of Shamas ud Din, a resident of Bughrana Saroor Drabshalla, District Kishtwar, and Sumaya Banoo (17), daughter of Riyaz Ahmed from Malnai Bhella, District Doda, from the river. Both were declared dead upon arrival at the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.

The injured passenger, Iqra Banoo (17), daughter of Tanvir Hussain and a resident of Bughrana Saroor Drabshalla, District Kishtwar, was immediately shifted to GMC Doda for treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Sources told The Chenab Times that Imran Hussain, who was serving as an Imam at a mosque in Srinagar, was on his way back home to Kishtwar. He had picked up his niece, Iqra Banoo, a student at a Madrasa in Srinagar. Sumaya Banoo, also a student at the same Madrasa, was accompanying them on their journey back via the Banihal-Ramban route towards the Doda-Kishtwar districts. Unfortunately, the trip took a fatal turn, leading to the tragic deaths of Imran and Sumaya, while Iqra remains under medical care.
Local authorities and rescue teams acted swiftly, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The accident has left the families of the victims and the community in deep mourning. Further details regarding the incident will be made available as the investigation progresses.
