Jammu & Kashmir Govt Allocates ₹1.7 Crore, ₹2 Lakh Each for Mulwarwan Fire Victims

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has sanctioned Rs 1.7 crore in financial aid for the victims of the devastating fire in Mulwarwan, Kishtwar district, which left over 80 families homeless on October 14, 2024. Each of the 85 affected families will receive Rs 2 lakh to assist in their rehabilitation and recovery.

An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat confirmed that the funds have been approved from the J&K Relief Fund. The Rs 1.7 crore has been transferred via NEFT to the account of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, on October 22, 2024. The aid will be disbursed through the Jammu & Kashmir Bank, with local officials confirming that the distribution will commence shortly.

In addition to the government’s relief package, local charitable organizations have also stepped up to support the affected families. ABABEEL, a well-known relief organization, has raised nearly Rs 2 crore in cash and essential materials, including blankets and utensils, to aid in the reconstruction of homes and provide daily necessities.

On 22 October 2024, The Chenab Times’ Anzer Ayoob reported the Ground Report of Warwan Fire Tragedy.

This coordinated response by the government and civil society is expected to significantly aid the victims as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives. However, the need for swift distribution of relief is pressing, as Mulwarwan will soon be isolated by winter snowfall, making recovery efforts even more challenging.
