Mumbai, Nov 22 – Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Govinda are set to reprise their roles in Bhagam Bhag 2, the sequel to the 2006 cult comedy directed by Priyadarshan. The project marks their reunion after nearly two decades, bringing fresh excitement to fans of the original film, which has grown in popularity through social media over the years.
The rights for the sequel have been acquired by Sarita Ashwin Varde of Roaring River Productions in collaboration with Shemaroo Entertainment, with Varde also producing the film. Work on the script is already underway, and the movie is expected to commence production in mid-2025.
“Because a special film like Bhagam Bhag deserves a sequel that’s just as special,” said Varde, explaining the delay in announcing the follow-up. “When the time was right, we decided to take the plunge.”
Bhagam Bhag, which starred Kumar, Govinda, and Paresh Rawal in leading roles, is widely regarded as one of Priyadarshan’s most iconic films. The movie occupies a cherished place in Akshay Kumar’s filmography alongside classics like Hera Pheri and Welcome.
The sequel promises to build on the comedic chaos of its predecessor. “We are excited to partner with an incredible team to create a film that will continue the legacy of its predecessor by bringing more laughter, fun, and entertainment,” said Hiren Gada, CEO of Shemaroo Entertainment.
Varde, a seasoned industry professional, has been a driving creative force behind several productions helmed by her husband, Ashwin Varde, whose credits include Boss, Kabir Singh, OMG 2, and Khel Khel Mein.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the makers have assured audiences that the sequel will be “madder, crazier, and funnier.” Further announcements, including the cast and crew, are expected soon.
The return of Kumar and Govinda to the Bhagam Bhag franchise has ignited anticipation, with fans eager to see how the duo will recapture the magic that made the original a success.
