Govt Allocates Rs 14,810 Crore For Rural Infrastructure

New Delhi, Dec 6 – The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned 3,437 roads spanning 20,801 km and 305 bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Jammu and Kashmir, with a project value of Rs. 14,810 crore, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.

Out of these, 3,214 roads covering 19,324.72 km and 217 bridges have already been completed, amounting to an expenditure of Rs. 12,610 crore, including the share contributed by the Union Territory (UT), according to official data.

The PMGSY, aimed at improving rural connectivity, has been a cornerstone of the government’s commitment to ensuring all-weather road access, particularly in remote and tribal areas.

The drive to improve infrastructure aligns with broader initiatives in healthcare delivery. As per the Health Dynamics of India (Infrastructure & Human Resources) 2022-23 report, 198 Sub Centres, 65 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and three Community Health Centres (CHCs) were operational in tribal areas of Jammu and Kashmir as of March 31, 2023.

“The government remains steadfast in its commitment to comprehensive rural development, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, and connectivity,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials emphasized that these initiatives aim to enhance access to essential services, bridging gaps in development and improving the quality of life for rural communities in the region.
