Two Police Personnel Found Dead in Suspected Fratricide in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Dec 8 – Two police personnel were found dead with bullet injuries inside a department vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district early on Sunday, with authorities suspecting a case of fratricide, officials said.

The incident occurred near the Kali Mata temple in the Rehembal area around 6:30 a.m. The deceased officers, identified as a head constable and a driver constable, were travelling from Sopore in north Kashmir to the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Talwara in Reasi district, officials said.

“The bullet-riddled bodies of the officers were discovered inside a police van,” a police spokesperson said. A third officer, a selection-grade constable who was also in the vehicle, escaped unhurt and is currently being questioned as part of the investigation, officials added.

“Preliminary findings suggest it is a case of fratricide and suicide. Senior police officials are at the scene, and further investigation is underway,” the police said in a statement.

The bodies were taken to the district hospital in Udhampur for postmortem examination. No further details about the motive or events leading up to the incident were immediately available.

Police and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have occasionally reported incidents of fratricide, attributed to stress and long working hours in high-pressure environments.
