BANDIPORA, Jan 4 – Three Indian Army soldiers lost their lives and three others were critically injured after an Army vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in the SK Payeen area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said.
The accident occurred on a mountainous road, with initial reports indicating that icy and treacherous conditions might have contributed to the tragedy. The vehicle veered off the road, leading to a fatal fall.
“Two soldiers died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries while being transported to a hospital in Srinagar,” said Dr. Masarat Iqbal Wani, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora. The three critically injured personnel were initially treated locally before being referred to a Srinagar hospital for advanced medical care.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Road accidents in the region are frequent, particularly during winter, as freezing temperatures and slippery roads create hazardous travel conditions. Further updates on the condition of the injured soldiers are awaited.
