New Delhi, Feb 4 – Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading the country by failing to deliver on key promises made during his tenure. Speaking in Parliament, Kharge listed 11 instances where he alleged the prime minister had not fulfilled his commitments.
Among the claims, Kharge pointed to Modi’s 2014 pledge to bring back black money and deposit Rs 15 lakh ($18,000) into every Indian’s bank account, as well as his assurance to create two crore jobs annually. He also highlighted the government’s failure to meet infrastructure deadlines, clean the Ganga river, and fulfill employment targets under the “Make in India” initiative.
Kharge further criticized Modi’s demonetization policy, recalling that the prime minister had sought 50 days to resolve cash shortages and had vowed to accept public punishment if he failed. The opposition leader also cited unmet promises of doubling farmers’ income by 2022, running a bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by the same year, and ensuring full coverage under the PM Kisan Yojana.
Additionally, Kharge accused the Modi government of not delivering on commitments to bring back economic offenders to face justice in India.
The remarks come amid rising political tensions ahead of the upcoming general elections. The government has yet to officially respond to Kharge’s allegations.![]()
