SRINAGAR, March 22 – The Ehsaas Foundation, a Srinagar-based volunteer organization, held a street iftari initiative on Friday, distributing essential items and iftar kits to Ramadan observers across multiple areas of the city, as the Islamic holy month progresses.
The foundation’s effort aimed to support those fasting from dawn to dusk, providing meals to break their fast at sunset and distributing supplies to ease the challenges faced by vulnerable communities during Ramadan. Volunteers handed out kits containing food items and other essentials in various neighborhoods, marking a grassroots push to foster community solidarity.
“The initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring no one goes without during this sacred time,” said a spokesperson for the Ehsaas Foundation. “We’re reaching out to as many people as possible, particularly those who might struggle to afford a proper iftar.”
Local residents praised the effort, with many gathering at distribution points to receive the aid. The kits included staples like dates, water, and ready-to-eat meals, tailored to meet the immediate needs of those breaking their fast. The foundation did not disclose the exact number of beneficiaries but said the operation spanned several key locations in Srinagar.
Ramadan, which began on March 2 in India, sees Muslims worldwide abstain from food and drink during daylight hours, culminating in iftar meals at sunset. The Ehsaas Foundation’s street iftari aligns with a broader tradition of charity and community support that defines the month for many.
The initiative comes amid a wave of similar efforts across the region, as organizations and individuals step up to assist during the 30-day period of fasting and reflection. Authorities in Srinagar have yet to comment on the event, but no disruptions were reported during the distribution.
The Ehsaas Foundation, known for its volunteer-driven outreach, plans to continue such activities throughout Ramadan, with further distributions expected in the coming weeks. The group has called for additional support from the public to sustain its efforts as the month progresses.
