RIYADH, March 29 – Saudi Arabia has announced that Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Saturday evening, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The moon-sighting committee convened after Maghrib prayers and confirmed the sighting of the new moon, signaling the conclusion of Ramadan after 29 days of fasting. The decision aligns with Islamic tradition, which determines the beginning of each lunar month based on crescent moon observations.
An official statement from the Royal Court is expected to confirm that Saturday, March 29, is the last day of Ramadan, and that Eid Al-Fitr will be observed across the Kingdom on Sunday.
Eid prayers will take place early Sunday morning at more than 15,948 mosques and 3,939 open-air prayer grounds across the country. Families will gather to mark one of Islam’s most significant religious celebrations, which is traditionally observed with communal prayers, festive meals, and acts of charity.
Eid Al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a major Islamic holiday that follows a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. The occasion is marked by joyous celebrations, family gatherings, and giving to the less fortunate.
Authorities have urged citizens and residents to adhere to safety protocols during Eid celebrations, as large crowds are expected at prayer sites and public venues.
