Srinagar Youth Faizan Rasool Among 29 Indians Stuck in Myanmar; Intervention for Repatriation Sought from MEA

Srinagar, Mar 29 – Faizan Rasool, a boy from Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir, is among twenty nine Indian residents who continue to remain stranded in Myanmar for over three weeks now.

Faizan, talking to news agency Kashmir Bulletin, on phone said that despite immigration process completed some twenty days before, they however await any response from authorities back home.

“We are in total twenty nine individuals, and have completed all the necessary immigration process over twenty days before, but to our agony the authorities back in India are yet to respond and seek from Myanmar authorities our repatriation,” Faizan said.

“Many before us have already left for India, but we fail to understand as to why we are being made to wait, that too when our matter is open to everyone in India and Jammu and Kashmir alike,” he said, adding, “Besides twenty eight boys, a girl also continues to remain stranded here.”

Urging External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for intervention, Faizan on behalf of the stranded group said that they have high hopes from the EAM office to bail them out from the crisis.

“We humbly request Hon’ble EAM S Jaishankar to expedite the process with the Myanmar authorities, so that we reach back to our homes in India,” Faizan said, adding, “The stranded group though overshadowed by uncertainty, is yet expecting immediate help from Hon’ble EAM for early repatriation.”

With particular to case of Faizan Rasool, the family earlier this month told Kashmir Bulletin that he (Faizan) was lured to Myanmar under false promises of employment and is now being held for Rs 4.5 lakh ransom. (KB)
