JAMMU, April 20 — Four people were killed and one injured in separate weather-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban and Reasi districts over the weekend, local officials said.
In Ramban district, a pre-dawn cloudburst hit the Seri Bagna area on Sunday, triggering flash floods that claimed two lives. Rescue operations were launched shortly after the incident, authorities said.
“Two bodies have been recovered,” an official said, identifying the deceased as Aqib Ahmad and Saqib Ahmad, sons of Mohammad Haneef, residents of Seri Bagna. Officials are continuing to assess the extent of the damage caused by the cloudburst.
Meanwhile, in Reasi district, two people were killed and one injured after lightning struck Chantu Gali near Dugga in Tehsil Arnas late Saturday evening, following a sudden cloudburst.
Abdul Rasheed, 60, and Shahnaz Begum, 25, both from Village Lamsora in Tehsil Bhomag, died on the spot, according to police officials. Gulzar Begum, 55, also from Lamsora and the wife of Rasheed, sustained injuries and was taken for medical treatment.
The lightning also killed approximately 40 sheep and goats in the area, officials said. A police team from Police Post Dhansal conducted preliminary investigations at the site.
Police have registered both incidents and taken cognizance.
