‘Godi Media Haye Haye’: Several National Media Channels Face Ire from People in Srinagar ‘Over Attempts to Flare Communal Disharmony’

Srinagar, April 23: Several national media outlets came under fire from residents of Srinagar on Wednesday for what locals described as biased and potentially inflammatory reporting in the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack.

According to reports received by The Chenab Times, the incident unfolded in Lal Chowk, a central area in the summer capital, where journalists from various national news channels were confronted by citizens. The protesters accused the media personnel of misrepresenting facts and sensationalizing the situation in a manner that could incite communal discord in the region.

Chanting slogans such as “Godi Media Haye Haye” and “Godi Media Murdabad“, the crowd demanded that the visiting journalists refrain from disseminating narratives that, according to them, distort the ground reality and exploit the tragedy for political or commercial gains.

“They have been commenting and reporting as per their whims, without considering the consequences their words may have on the fragile situation here,” said one local resident. “We are still grappling with the shock and sorrow of the attack, and such insensitive coverage only adds to our anguish.”

Another local emphasized the need for responsible journalism, particularly in a conflict-sensitive region like Kashmir. “Reporters should exercise greater care in how they frame their stories. Their words have the power to either soothe or inflame an already delicate environment.”

The protests highlight growing concerns over media ethics and the role of national news outlets in regions marked by conflict and communal sensitivities. No reports of violence or police intervention were noted during the demonstrations.

As tensions remain high following the Pahalgam incident, calls for balanced and empathetic media coverage continue to resonate strongly across the Valley.
