Muslim Bodies Across Chenab Region Condemn Pahalgam Terror Attack, Call for Shutdown and Justice

Doda, April 22: Muslim organizations and religious leaders across Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab region have strongly condemned the barbaric terror attack on tourists near Baisaran in Pahalgam, Anantnag, which claimed the lives of 27 people and left many others critically injured. The tragedy has drawn widespread outrage and unified calls for justice, solidarity, and a complete regional shutdown on Wednesday.

In coordinated messages from Bhaderwah, Thathri, Kishtwar, and Kahara, various Islamic bodies decried the killings as un-Islamic, inhumane, and a grave attack on the spirit of Kashmir, known for its warmth and hospitality.

Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah expressed deep sorrow and anger, stating that such violence was unacceptable and entirely against the ethos of Kashmir. The organization described the attack as cowardly and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, while wishing a swift recovery to the injured. A complete shutdown in Bhaderwah was announced for Wednesday as a mark of protest.

In Thathri, Maulana Mohd Shafqat Qasmi, Imam of Jama Masjid Thathri, condemned the killings in the strongest terms, calling the attack absolutely un-Islamic and a grave sin in the eyes of both humanity and religion. He emphasized that Islam stands for peace and the sanctity of life, not violence or hatred. The President of the Jamia Masjid Committee Thathri also issued a public condemnation, stating that such heinous and inhumane acts have no place in any civilized society. Describing the incident as a brutal assault on peace and humanity, he extended condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the recovery of the injured. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to peace and unity, announcing that a complete shutdown would be observed in the Thathri market on Wednesday in solidarity.

Mufti Parvez Alam Rahimi, President of Anjuman Islamia Kahara and Imam of Jama Masjid Kahara, described the killings as inhuman and un-Islamic. He reiterated that no faith supports such brutality and called for swift justice. He also offered prayers for the victims and support for their grieving families.

In Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, President of Majlis Shoura Committee and Imam of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, condemned the terror attack and stressed that Islam does not teach violence, but is a religion of peace. A formal announcement of condemnation and the shutdown call was made over the mosque loudspeakers in Kishtwar. Imam Kichloo offered prayers for the victims and urged the public to stand united against those trying to destabilize peace.

Similarly, in Bun Astan, Kishtwar, Qari Manzoor Ahmed, Imam of Jama Masjid, described the killings as heart-wrenching and unforgivable. He demanded an in-depth investigation into the attack and announced a complete shutdown in Kishtwar on Wednesday.

The collective voice of condemnation from Muslim leaders across the Chenab Valley highlights a strong and unified stand against terrorism and violence. All leaders reiterated that such acts have no place in Islam or in the cultural fabric of Kashmir. As security forces continue operations around the attack site, and as high-level reviews of the region’s security situation are underway, the people of the Chenab Valley have responded with solemn protest and a shared call for peace, justice, and unity.
